Had I not set my 2020 New Year’s resolution, I would never have owned a trumpet and discovered the power and allure of this iconic instrument. Learning the trumpet was a natural extension of my existing musical skills in Trombone, despite initial concerns about its difficulty. Contrary to popular belief, my ability to play the trombone did not automatically translate to trumpet mastery. As you’ll see from my other skills, acquiring new knowledge often involves building upon existing foundations. Learn the foundation first then extend.
Programming languages like C# and Java, cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, and dance styles like Bharatanatyam and Kathak all share a common learning process. However, mastering a new skill requires a deliberate decision and effective management of distractions. and commitment to the decision and the joy of learning.
