I am a trombonist—truly a trombonist. This is my instrument. I have probably spent thousands of hours practicing (around 2,000 hours), and that is not an exaggerated statement. For several years, I practiced three days a week, and later about two days a week on average, with roughly 2.5 hours per session. This training continued for five years, all during my school days, as a member of the Western band.
I had to stop during my Advanced Level period because I moved to another school to study the bioscience stream. There were only a few students pursuing that stream, and the school did not have the resources to run a bioscience program. During my school years, I received a Colours Award in recognition of my consistency in attending band practices.
I still occasionally play the trombone at church events, especially during the Christmas season.
The trombone is a unique instrument in the brass section and can be considered the violin’s equivalent among brass instruments—distinct yet expressive, like twins of different species.
Can I really ignore the time and effort I invested in learning this instrument during my school days and waste my valuable time on unfocused, random activities? I am saying this to myself—out loud.
