Dance

Dance is an art with multiple benefits. Both as a professional artist or being a casual dancer the immense benefit of health and happiness.

Being a good dancer means it reveals more about your inner abilities and physical intelligence.

I was already interested in dance from an early age. I watched many videos of Michael Jackson’s songs and performances, and his creativity inspired me deeply. I often tried to mimic some of his dance moves to understand the effort and discipline required to reach such a level of perfection. At that time, I didn’t pay close attention to the technical details of Bharatanatyam, but I often wondered how difficult it must be to remember every step and perform them with such precision.

My interest in dance took a different turn when I began comparing my experience in martial arts training—particularly the structured steps and discipline of Karate kata—with the expressive form of the Indian classical dance Bharatanatyam. I became aware of how movement extends beyond physical technique to include precise hand gestures, detailed facial expressions, and controlled emotional expression, all working together to communicate meaning. This realization revealed the power of integrating multiple disciplines—physical, emotional, and expressive—into a single art form, and it inspired me to pursue and learn this beautiful tradition dance.

Tried all opportunities Improve myself in this Journey.

This performance involves myself and my daughter. It is a very rushed preparation choreographed by my wife with a few days of practice. Even though the quality of the performance is below average, for me it’s an opportunity to learn and break my comfort zone. It’s my first step; I identified the gaps. A good learner always welcomes feedback and tries to understand reality as it is. The important thing is having a learning mindset and continuous improvement. Maybe my later videos and teaching videos can showcase my learning journey and improvements.

The Benefits of Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam is not just a classical dance form; it is an excellent system of exercise that provides a holistic workout for the body and mind. This art form offers a multidimensional fitness experience, combining strength, flexibility, and endurance. The rhythmic movements enhance temporal coordination, while the intricate postures improve joint mobility and finger dexterity. Facial expressions used in Bharatanatyam serve as a unique exercise for facial muscles, promoting better control and expressiveness.

One of the most inspiring examples is Dr. C. V. Chandrasekhar, who continues to perform Bharatanatyam even in his late 80s, demonstrating its role in maintaining vitality and agility throughout life. Practicing Bharatanatyam nurtures physical health, mental focus, and emotional balance, making it a powerful tool for overall well-being.
